Temeda-MC-4-Install-Guide

Step 1: Turn on the engine

  1. Turn the engine on.
    • The lights on the device should turn on within 10 seconds.
  2. Check the Temeda application; the application should show the engine is running.
    • If the engine isn’t shown as running:
      • Make sure the device has a clear view to the sky
      • Check that the device is installed per the Gate Install Guide shipped with the device

Step 2: Determine bus type

  1. Login to the Temeda Application
  2. Locate the Bus Type Field (below).
  3. If the asset shows that it is using bus type “0 – Vehicle Bus Unrecognized”, re-install the device using a 3-wire harness.

Checking the bus type

  1. Click on “Assets” on the Menu
  2. Use the search field to search for the asset
  3. After locating the asset, click on the asset name
  4. Click on the More tab, and then click View Details
  5. The Bus Type field will be visible once you scroll down a bit, see the picture below:

Step 3: Run activity report

  1. Take the asset for a five-minute drive. The lights on the device should remain on throughout the entirety of the drive.
  2. After the trip is complete, use the Temeda application to run an Activity detail report for the asset. The trip should have events in this order:
    1. “Ignition On”
    2. “Motion Start”
    3. “In Motion” events
    4. “Motion Stop”
    5. “Ignition Off”
      • There should be no “Power On” or “Power Loss” events recorded by the device before the “Ignition Off” event occurs.

How to run an Activity Detail Report

  1. Click the “Reports” button
  2. Use the drop-down menu to select the “Activity Detail (AEMP)” report
  3. Use the “Search” field to look for the asset
  4. Click on the box to the left of the asset name so that there is a check mark inside of it
  5. Set the Date Range to “Today”
  6. Click “Run Report”
  7. The events are listed in the “Events” column of the report.

Note

If a power loss occurs before the “Ignition Off” event, a power bridge and sensor bridge must be used for the installation of this asset. The power bridge will establish constant power to the device and the sensor bridge will be used to determine the “Engine Running” state of the asset.

Please follow the guidelines outlined in the “Temeda MC Product Line Installation Policy & Guide” and the instructions in the “Install Instructions for Physical Ignition Monitoring with MC Device” document.

The events are listed in the “Events” column of the report.

Step 4: Check the data

Check the source settings tab from the Asset Detail screen.

  • Starting with odometer, check to see if the odometer on the dashboard matches the Engine Odometer field in the Temeda application.
    • If it does, select “Engine Bus” as the source for odometer data.
    • Otherwise, use GPS or VSS odometer. If VSS or GPS odometer is selected, enter the odometer from the dashboard in the “Odometer” field on the Basic tab.

Checking the source for Odometer Data

  1. Click on Assets in the Accordion
  2. Use the search field to search for the asset
  3. After locating the asset, click on the asset name
  4. Click on the “Commands” tab
  5. Click on the “Edit Asset” button
  6. Click on the “Source Settings” tab
  7. Check the “Engine Odometer (MI)” field in the “Odometer Data (Last 14 Days)” box to see if the odometer on the dash matches the “Engine Odometer” field.
    • If it does, click on the “Engine Bus (Engine Odometer)” radio button
    • If it does not, select the “GPS Device (GPS odometer)” or “VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor Odometer)” field. Then, return to the “Basic” tab and enter the odometer from the dashboard into the “Odometer” field.
  8. Click the “Save” button.

Checking the source for Engine Hour data

  1. Return to the Source Selection tab of the Asset Detail screen
  2. Check to see if the Engine Hours on the dashboard matches the “Engine Bus Hours” field in the “Engine Hours Data (Last 14 Days)” box
    • If it does, select “Engine Bus VCM/ECM/CAN” as the source for engine hour data
    • If it does not, use “GPS Device (Calculated Engine Hours)”
  3. If GPS Device (Calculated Engine Hours) is selected, enter the engine hours from the dashboard in the “Engine Hours” field on the “Basic” tab.

Step 5: Turn off the engine

  1. Turn the engine off but don’t kill power to the asset or the device.
  2. The lights should turn off on the device within 60 seconds.
  3. Check the Temeda application; the asset should show that the last event was an Ignition-off event and no Power Loss event.
    • If a power loss occurs, a Power Bridge harness must be installed. Please follow the guidelines outlined in the “Temeda MC Product Line Installation Policy & Guide”.

Step 6: Check “engine running”

  1. If available on the asset, turn the accessory switch on, keep the engine off, and wait 60 seconds.
  2. The lights on the device should remain off. Check the Temeda application; the asset should still show the engine is not running.
  3. If the engine is shown as running:
    • 3-Wire Install: Find a new source to determine the engine running state of the asset.

Step 7: Fully turn off device

  1. Keep the accessory switch in the off position
  2. Turn the engine off.
  3. Use the master killswitch for the asset to cut power.
    • The lights should remain off on the device.
  4. The application should reflect that the engine is not running.
    • If an “Ignition On” event occurs, the ignition wire is acting a ground source for power. Determine the proper install method to use, by referring to the “Temeda MC Product Line Installation Policy & Guide”.
